At the Mental Health World Conference (MHWC 2026), this session convenes cognitive behavioural therapists, clinical researchers, and experts on trauma to examine the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms of anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD. It will highlight best practices in trauma informed care, pharmacological innovation, and scalable interventions from front-line providers and international health leaders.
The workshop Anxiety, OCD, and Trauma-Related Disorders will offer a detailed discussion of the intricate relationship between anxiety disorders, OCD, and trauma-related disorders. Specialists in clinical psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience will cover current progress in diagnostic criteria and the neurobiological processes involved in the pathogenesis of these disorders, including fear network dysregulation, dysfunction of the stress response, and cognitive control deficits. Of special interest is the problem of accurate diagnosis, because there are common symptoms among generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and PTSD that can confuse practitioners during the assessment process.
In the context of the MHWC 2026 conference, this workshop will examine promising treatment techniques that help relieve symptoms and achieve recovery from the condition. The latest psychotherapeutic methods, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention therapy in the case of OCD, and trauma-focused interventions like EMDR and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, will be discussed. At the same time, the workshop will consider pharmacotherapeutic approaches, including new-generation medications to treat anxiety disorders and augmentation methods that could benefit people who did not respond well to primary therapy.
