Digital Addiction and Mental Health in the Tech Age
At the Mental Health World Conference (MHWC 2026), this session examines the psychological impacts of screen time, gaming, social media, and digital overuse. Researchers and clinicians will discuss criteria for digital addiction, evidence-based behavioural interventions, and public health strategies for promoting healthy technology use.
The following analysis will focus on processes that trigger neurocognitive and behavioral disorders caused by stimulation of the reward systems, problems with attention control, and problems with impulse regulation, which arise from excessive internet use and interaction with various content available on the web.
In addition, possible negative consequences of spending a lot of time watching screens will be considered, including insufficient sleep, poor academic performance, difficulty concentrating at work, socialization issues, and mental health problems. The ways in which social media platforms manipulate users' preferences, as well as the features of video games that make them extremely popular among players, will also be discussed.
Preventive measures and treatment methods seem to be the major topics to be covered, including detoxing, cognitive and behavioral therapy, parenting recommendations, teaching children in schools about healthy internet use, and other relevant issues.
