  • Title: Effect of Stress Reduction Intervention on Psychological Outcomes and Glycemic Control in Pre diabetes A Pilot Study

Abstract

Chronic psychological stress is increasingly recognized as a significant factor influencing both mental and metabolic health. Prediabetes, a high risk state for type 2 diabetes, is closely associated with lifestyle factors including stress, poor sleep, and physical inactivity. Chronic stress and dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system may adversely affect psychological well being, insulin sensitivity, and glycemic control. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effect of a structured stress reduction intervention on psychological outcomes and glycemic control in individuals with prediabetes. A 12 week community based pilot study was conducted in 15 individuals with prediabetes aged 30 to 60 years. Participants were enrolled voluntarily after informed consent.

The intervention included stress reduction practices such as breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and mind and body practices, along with integrated lifestyle guidance including physical activity, sleep improvement, dietary modification, and polyherbal support as a non pharmacological adjunct. Participants were followed up weekly for monitoring and guidance. Parameters assessed at baseline and after 12 weeks included HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, perceived stress score, sleep quality, body weight, and waist circumference. Pre and post intervention values were compared to assess changes in psychological and metabolic outcomes. Preliminary findings suggest improvement in perceived stress levels, sleep quality, and glycemic parameters following the intervention. Participants also demonstrated improvement in lifestyle adherence and overall well being.
